Whaleback Mountain Policies

Before hitting the slopes at Whaleback Mountain, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with our resort's policies. Understanding our guidelines on lift tickets, alcohol, tailgating, tree skiing and riding, uphill travel, equipment rentals, parking regulations, ski lessons, and any specific rules helps ensure a hassle-free and enjoyable experience.   • Whaleback Mountain holds a Liquor License issued by the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission. In possessing this license, Whaleback Mountain is accountable to New Hampshire state law.

    State law dictates that no alcoholic beverages be consumed in the licensed area except those that are sold on premise to those 21 years of age or older. Furthermore, it is unlawful to remove alcoholic beverages from the premises.

    It is the intent of Whaleback and its employees to ensure that all activities involving alcohol are conducted in compliance with these laws. It is Whaleback Mountain policy to deny service, or remove from the premises any patron found in violation of New Hampshire state law and our Alcohol Policy.

  • CODE OF CONDUCT

    All guests who load any lift and/or utilize terrain at Whaleback agree to adhere to the following code of conduct:

    KNOW THE CODE IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

    National Ski Area Association (NSAA) developed Your Responsibility Code to help skiers and boarders be aware that there are elements of risk in snowsports that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce. Seven Points to Your Responsibility Code:

    1) Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.

    2) People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.

    3) Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic

    4) Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail

    5) You must prevent runaway equipment

    6) Read and obey all signs, warnings and hazard markings.

    7) Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.

    8) You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.

    9) Do not use the lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.

    10) If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.

  • Who doesn't love a good tailgating party? At The Whale, we call it Whalegating! We ask that everyone who wants to join in on the fun please adhere to the following guidelines

    -Premier on-snow tent spaces are available to reserve for any day we are open for the season. Contact Executive Director, Jon Hunt to reserve yours now!

    -Due to our limited parking spaces, no tents, grills or other items may block or take up additional parking spaces

    -No open flame fire pits

    -In accordance with our alcohol policy, no outside alcohol may be consumed on Whaleback property

    -Carry in, carry out policy, please leave no trace

    -This policy may change at any time

    -Most importantly, have a Whale of a good time!

  • Tree skiing and riding has gained popularity in recent years. Whaleback welcomes and supports our guests looking to enjoy the mountain in this manner. For the safety of our customers and employees we ask that everyone follow our guidelines.

    Woods / Glades / Trees both on or off map are not lit, maintained, patrolled or swept. Please enter at your own risk with this information and caution in mind.

    We recommend travelling in threes in case one rider should become incapacitated.

    We recommend wearing helmets, eye protection and keeping your ski pole straps off your wrists while in the woods

  • Uphill travel by means of skinning or snowshoeing has gained popularity in recent years. Whaleback welcomes and supports our guests looking to enjoy the mountain in this manner. For the safety of our customers and employees we ask that everyone follow our guidelines. All travel is done at each individuals own risk.

    Uphill travelers need to purchase either an uphill season pass or an uphill day pass (which can be obtained online).

    No uphill or downhill travel on any trails with grooming or snowmaking equipment.

    Uphill travelers using our trails when the mountain is not open are doing so at their own risk. There are no ski patrol or rescue services available at these times.

    Downhill Travel on Bougainvillea and Spout from closing time until 6am is forbidden to allow the trail to set up for race training.

    Uphill travel during operating hours is limited to the skin track (skinners right) on Ivory Run.

    Uphill travelers skiing when the mountain is operating must abide by all rules that apply to lift-served skiers. Specifically, skiing down a closed run is strictly prohibited.

    Headlamps/lights are required in low light conditions or after sunset for your own safety.

    In addition:

    You must be visible to all traffic at all times, and you should know and follow “Your Responsibility Code” at all times.

    Be familiar with the Backcountry Code of Conduct: Ski Kind (www.skikind.org)

    Usage of the terrain parks for uphill travel is prohibited.

    Dogs and other pets are not permitted on the mountain at any time (except service dogs).

    Sledding is not permitted on the mountain at any time. Hiking up the mountain without snowshoes during the ski season is not permitted.

    Ski Patrol reserves the right to close the mountain at any time. If the mountain is closed to up- hill traffic, a sign indicating that will be placed at the base of the authorized uphill route.

    Every skier or rider intending to utilize the Uphill Pass must execute the Assumption of Risk and Release Agreement in advance of trail engagement.

  • We do permit package snacks and water bottles at the mountain. We do not permit outside prepared food such as pizza, crock pots, party trays or other foods. We do not permit outside alcoholic beverages, but we do offer food and drink at our Spouter Lounge.
