After School Programs

Are your kids looking for an adventure?  Our After-School Ski & Ride programs are designed to provide a safe, fun and affordable experience on snow. Not many kids can say that their after-school activity involves strapping on skis or a snowboard and taking a run before homework!

Our instructors foster an encouraging atmosphere that promotes fun and learning. Children are placed in groups based on ability and then age as numbers allow. The lessons follow the progression of skill development and students progress as they master skills and terrain. For the experienced skier/rider, who is a 3rd grader or above, lift only (free-ski/ride) options are available!

Programs vary between schools and local Recreation Departments. Some schools offer early dismissal while other school groups head to the mountain at the end of the school day. Some groups provide transportation, while others organize a carpool. Check out your schools/rec dept’s link below for details on your program!

All programs have a volunteer after-school ski coordinator from your school community. The coordinator attend’s weekly sessions and organizes student groups at check-in and check-out.  They also coordinate school groups and communicate info to families. If you are interested in becoming a coordinator, please contact for additional info. ALL school coordinators receive a free season pass limited to a first-come, first-served basis.

Ski and snowboard packages are available for rent at Whaleback for our after-school programs. If choosing this option, your child will need to come to a fit day prior to the start of their program. Fit days are every Sunday from 12-4pm and Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 3pm-7pm, during the month of December.

We offer financial assistance based on need and availability.

Don’t forget that our lights come on when the sun goes down and you’re welcome to ski with your kids at pickup for only $20!

If  you would like your school to participate with Whaleback's program, please contact for more information.

Once students arrive at the mountain, their after-school coordinator and their Whaleback instructor will check them in. They will be taken to pick up their rental equipment or put on their own equipment. Then they're off to enjoy their lesson! Afterwards, they're lead back to the lodge by their instructor for checkout and pickup or free ski with their designated pickup person.

After School FAQ

Are students grouped by ability or age? First we group students by ability, but then if there are enough participants within that ability we further group them by age.

What is the student to instructor ratio? We strive to achieve an 8 to 1 ratio, or better for the younger, never-been-on-snow groups.

Will my child ride the chairlift alone? Students only ride the chairlift alone if they have already been on chairlifts or the instructor feels comfortable letting them do so based on their age and ability. Otherwise younger students are paired with adults or older capable students.

Do you offer financial aid? There is financial aid available and all information is held in the strictest confidence. Please click here for information and to complete the application.

Can I ski with my child after their lesson? Once the program ends for the day, students are welcome to free ski/ride until closing. Parent may join them with the purchase of a $20 parent ticket.

Who is monitoring my child when they are at the mountain? Each child must check in and check out at the After School desk on the first floor of the lodge by your after-school coordinator. Once checked in they are assigned to an instructor and head out to start their lesson!

Our goal is for the same instructor to have your child on a weekly basis. We invite parents to chaperone and ski/ride free for that day.

Please ask your after school coordinator about chaperoning needs or email for additional info
