KidStuff Family Fun Fest

Family FunFest is Kid Stuff magazine’s annual family event. It’s about families and fun, education and entertainment, local businesses and nonprofits, games and goodies — a day of memory making right here in your Upper Valley community.

Although Family FunFest is a kid-centered festival, adults have plenty of reasons to love FunFest, too. Parents will learn about camp opportunities, meet Upper Valley tutors and educators, find deals on clothing, learn about birthday party places, and get information from local nonprofit organizations. Door prizes — appealing to the whole family— will be given away during the event. Planned activities include storytelling, obstacle course, pony rides, face paintings, arts and crafts projects, and more

Whaleback Mountain goes XC! Introducing cross country skiing under the lights

Starting this Tuesday, February 2nd, Whaleback Mountain is offering cross country skiing weekly every Tuesday night for the next 6 weeks. Nordic Skiing will be under the lights, on a track which is approximately 1km in length.   Because of the nature of our weather an attempt will be made to provide a groomed surface, but whatever we have will be better than our non-existing natural terrain, because Whaleback has snow making capability.

Whaleback's Tuesday night skiing offers something for everyone.  The lodge is open! Come after dinner at home or after work, treat yourself to some food, change into your ski clothes, hang out with friends and get some exercise.  You can buy hot cocoa, chili and a treat from the kitchen. The upstairs bar will be open for adults celebrating a great end of the day or a Nordic skiing workout. The Nordic track will close at 9:00PM, but the bar stays open unitl 9:30PM.

Long-time supporter of Nordic skiing in the Upper Valley, Omer and Bob's, is sponsoring the first Nordic ski night. Thanks to Omer and Bob’s Tuesday, February 2 is free. Beginning February 9, there will be an access fee charge. The cost per night will be $10/person for an adult, children ages 12 to 18, $5 each (younger Nordic skiers are free) and $25 for a family of 3 or more people. You will be able to ski from   7 PM – 9 PM. On Tuesday February 9, 2016, the UVSSF leadership will hold an open forum from 6:30PM until 7:00PM to share with the community its work and potential plans for a Nordic training/learning center on the top of Whaleback Mountain.  If constructed this venue would include a 5K homologated Nordic track with snow making capability and lights.

This is a great opportunity, so join us at Whaleback this Tuesday evening.  We look forward to hearing your ideas such as offering family friendly games, activities in the lodge and outside, skiing, waxing clinics and more! A lot will depend on what we learn on Tuesday February 9, 2016. So plan to join us for some healthy activity under the lights, beginning on February 2, 2016 at 7PM.

WHITE OUT DAY!

OK, let's be honest with ourselves, when you read that Washington, D.C., might get 2 feet of snow this weekend, you might have a few choice words to utter. Right?

Well, to heck with it. Let's create our own blizzard of fun. This Saturday is a WHITE OUT Whale Style (kind of keeping in our sports theme from last week). Throw on some white face paint, throw on a white t-shirt over your coat, throw on a white lei! Throw on anything white!

We'll be giving out #getwhaled stickers and Whaleback t-shirts to those of you who are truly in the spirit!
